Journey into the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics

PCSD’s secondary math teachers, school-based coaches, and administrators came together in November to begin their journey into the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics beginning with the Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning Standards (MTRs).

The new B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics are intended to be taught through the lens of the Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning Standards (MTRs).

The MTRs have been defined by the state of Florida as instructional practices, or strategies, which should be seen in the classroom on a daily basis.   They outline specific teacher instructional behaviors and student learning behaviors that promote deeper mathematics understanding and critical thinking.

School-based teams worked on matching teacher clarifications and student behaviors to promote a deeper understanding and received guidance on how to integrate the MTRs within their current mathematics instruction. The ultimate goal is to enable students to use the MTRs as self-monitoring tools for success. #ProudtobePCSD
